Budget DIY: Kitchen Utensil Upgrade

Here's a quick and easy DIY you can do in less than 30 minutes to spruce up your basic kitchen utensils. This weekend, one of my roommates got married (eeeek, so crazy!) and we needed to replace some kitchen items now that's she's moving out. I was inspired by this DIY gift idea and decided to personalize these a little bit. 

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

• Wooden cooking utensils (I got both spoons from Ikea, only $1.49 each!)
• Painter's tape (I picked mine up at Target)
• Acrylic paint (White, gray, and rose gold paint are all from Michael's)
• Paint brushes (J bought a set for me from Blick (not this exact set), but you can get some for less at Michael's or Amazon)

STEP 1: Measure how much you'd like to paint and tape off that section. You can use a ruler if you want to be more precise, but I just decided to wing it. Make sure the tape is secure and there are no air pockets– otherwise the paint will seep through and it won't create a clean line.

STEP 2: Paint up to the tape marker and let them dry. You can dry these by resting the painted ends over the edge of a table or place them in a vase with the painted ends sticking up.

STEP 3: Once they're dry, take the tape and wrap this around the next section you want to paint. I wanted a metallic stripe right after the solid color, so I taped the edge of where the solid paint ends and a little past this on the other side to create a thin line. But you can customize this however you like!

STEP 4: Once this dries, take the tape off very carefully just to make sure you don't peel off any of the paint. But don't worry if you do, because you can always patch those spots up.

And voila, you're done!
